Here are some of the biggest weather facts and stats from the week.
Washington Week 10/4/19
- On Saturday, September 28, Category 5 Lorenzo became the strongest hurricane that far north and east in the Atlantic Basin.
- On Sunday, September 29, Spokane, WA received 1.9” of snow. This is the first measurable snowfall recorded on this date in since records began in 1881. This also beats the previous monthly one-day snowfall record of 1.4” set in 1926.
- Great Falls, MT received over 14” of snow from the late September snow event.
- Every day in September in Evansville, IN was at or above 80° for the first time in recorded history.
- Heat plagued the south on Tuesday, October 1st. It was Nashville’s hottest October day in history at 98°.
- The heat continued on Wednesday, October 2nd when over 50 monthly records were tied or broken for cities like Tuscaloosa, AL (101°), Athens, GA (98°), New Orleans (96°), and Charlotte, NC at (99°).
- Tuesday, October 1st also made some rainfall records for the midwest. Des Moines, IA received 3.59” of rain, making it the wettest October day in 135 years.
- Wednesday, October 2nd was the 90th 90° day in Atlanta this year. This is only the third time that has happened in recorded history.
